Description
Grizzly Bear Toy
Despite common belief, grizzly bears aren’t one single species. Instead, they are any North American subspecies of brown bear, including the mainland and peninsular grizzly, as well as the Kodiak bear. In fact, scientists often refer grizzlies as North American brown bears.
History
Although grizzly bears are often regarded as being hostile and ferocious, they tend to avoid contact with humans. When a grizzly bear attacks, it’s often because it was surprised or is defending either a source of food or its cubs. While they are generally more non-confrontational than they’re given credit for, grizzly bears will defend their cubs fiercely. Despite the grizzly bear’s immense size and natural strength, all subspecies are considered threatened in the United States and endangered in parts of Canada.
